No Compensation & No Tour!

January 7, 2008.
The Australian Labor government will not be allowing any compensation schemes when they eventually apologise to Indigenous Australians for the stolen generation and over three hundred years of social, economic and legal injustice. The move has outraged many Indigenous community leaders.
In my eyes, if the ALP make good on their promise to put that money elsewhere, through indirect means, i.e. funding or bonds, rather than giving the cash straight into the wallets of Indigenous Australians, then I'm happy. I just hope that the money will actually get to the ones who need it the most, and is distributed fairly among communities across Australia.
India are discussing the possibility of boycotting the rest of their cricket tour of Australia after Harbhajan Singh was last night found guilty of racial abuse, and for some terrible umpiring decisions in the 2nd test in Sydney this week.
The Indians want an appeal on the decision to ban their star bowler, and have allegedly suspended the tour until this occurs. It's ironic, because if they do cancel the tour the Indian Cricket Board will have to dish out millions in compensation, but I suppose with the new Indian League starting up soon, they will have plenty of spare cash to hand around.
And finally, a staggering five hundred people in China have been expelled from the ruling Communist Party for having more than one child. Since the late 1970s, urban couples in China have been limited to one child while those living in rural areas are allowed two.
