Libs Sour Grapes Over Hospitals

January 15, 2008.
The Federal Opposition says a $150 million commitment to slash elective surgery waiting lists is nothing more than a short-term bailout for the states.
I think its sour grapes, to be honest. The Liberals realise that for 11 years in office, the state of our public hospitals decreased dramatically, and they did very little to halt the fall, apart from shove the blame to the states.
The ALP has kept their election promise of quick action, and has handed out the first of four monetary instalments, in a $600 million health system program.
Yes, the first step isn't much in terms of monetary figures, but hopefully in four years time, and after $600 million has been pumped into the industry, waiting lists and general communication between GP's and hospitals will have improved ten-fold.
This, on top of future training programs and a possible Federal take-over of public hospitals, is a gutsy first step, one the Liberals never took. They have no leg to stand on, only a big mouth.
